April 15, 2016
It was a cold night last night, but at least there weren’t any wind storms rocking us around. It got light around 4:30, but we decided to sleep for 3 more hours since we aren’t insane. First things first, we saw Godafoss waterfall since it was right near us, and it gave us a great view as we brushed our teeth. We would all enjoy tooth brushing so much more if only we had a view like that each morning.
In Akureyri we wanted to see some of the town, so we parked in the lot of a cute church and were heading inside when a hearse pulled up along with other cars and we realized we almost crashed a funeral. It didn’t take us long to turn right back around and leave the city altogether.
Since a few things we had on our list to see haven’t taken us as long as expected or have been closed due to winter weather we were ahead of schedule, we drove on to do a few of tomorrow’s initial plans. First stop was a cool little church in the hills that has grass growing on the roof called Vidimyrarkikja. Not much to do here since we couldn’t go in, but there was an adorable little kitty that came running up to me and jumped into my arms. We put it in our bag to take back with us.
Hvitserkur is a rock formation just off the coast in the ocean on the peninsula Vatsnes. Windy and chilly, but the sun was out again and gave us a beautiful view off the coast. And no popped tires on the gravel road! For those of you who know us well, you know that’s a constant issue. Not in Iceland, the land of dreams coming true!

We then headed toward Snaefellsnes peninsula to get gas and be closer to tomorrow’s sites, and ended up working on pictures and the blog for the rest of the evening. We found a nice spot looking out over a bay to sleep!
Love,
