San Francisco & Napa/Sonoma Valley

Good morning!

We’re getting ready to head out to Yosemite from San Francisco, so we’ll update you on the past couple of days!

We left Sequoia early on Wednesday morning to head to San Francisco. The drive was really pretty just like all of the other drives we’ve had.

We didn’t have a whole lot planned to do in San Francisco, but we did visit a couple of the tourist spots on Wednesday and Thursday, including the Sutro Baths. It’s basically the ruins of and old swimming facility for rich people. It would have been a great location to swim because it’s built right into the coastline on the beach, but it was pretty disappointing and lame, as you can see on Michelle’s face.

Next we went and had lunch at a great local spot called Lou’s Cafe. Tune in to San Francisco TV to see a shot of my sexy face eating a sandwich. Some guy was videoing people for the news and I felt really comfortable in the spotlight, since I love attention. After lunch we headed to Twin Peaks, which is a lookout spot over all of San Francisco. It had a great view, but once again way too many tourists.

Visiting San Francisco was surprisingly disappointing. All three of the big cities that we’ve been to really weren’t that great. I’m sure that they would be fun to hang out in if you had a longer period of time to be there, but overall visiting big, touristy cities isn’t our thing. We’ll stick to nature! It was  also very cloudy and overcast, so that probably had something to do with it as well. We’re so used to Charlotte, which is clean and new and has tons of pretty trees everywhere. These cities are anything but clean and new and there are no trees!

We also went to the Wharf and saw some sea lions (those things are so entertaining) as well as a few useful shops around the Wharf (see the stores below). Michelle found a piano staircase! Wish I could post a video here of her outrageous talent.

One of the best parts of our trip so far was yesterday afternoon, going to Napa Valley and Sonoma and doing a few wine tastings. We’ve pretty much decided to move here because it’s so beautiful. The hype is true. We had the best time going to a few different wineries and sitting on patios with great views and talking to folks. Everyone was so nice. If we lived in Napa, I think we’d be happy all the time too! It was 70 degrees and sunny with a breeze and we were drinking wine. What’s not to be happy about! Below are pictures of the three wineries we visited (which we highly recommend).

Artesa Winery

Classic Michelle face.

Me in my element.
Obligatory artsy vineyard photo.

Bartholomew Park Winery

Arrowood Winery

After our last wine tasting, I had a surprise for Michelle planned for last night. I had been poking around for things to do while I was planning our trip and found out that Steve Martin (yes, that Steve Martin) was playing a concert with a band from NC called the Steep Canyon Rangers at Sonoma State University. Steve Martin plays the banjo. Steve Martin is really good at playing the banjo. He’s also Steve Martin, so the show was hilarious and it was really great bluegrass music.  You should watch the video below!

On to Yosemite until Monday! So we may not post or have service until then.

Love,

Taylor and Michelle
